SUMMARY:Winlink Training
DESCRIPTION:Winlink is a communication system used in amateur radio that enables radio operators to send and receive email over radio frequencies. It is particularly valuable for disaster response and emergency communication. Winlink allows users to establish connections in areas where traditional communication infrastructure might be compromised or unavailable. \nIn disaster scenarios\, when standard communication channels are disrupted\, amateur radio operators can deploy Winlink to maintain vital communication. The software supports both text-based and email communication\, making it an effective tool for coordinating relief efforts\, sharing critical information\, and facilitating communication among emergency responders. \nThis training will include a classroom component as well as hands on with radios and gear.

SUMMARY:Scratch Ankle Bike Race
DESCRIPTION:Please signup to volunteer using this link. \nWe’ve been asked to provide support for the Scratch Ankle Bike Race on March 16 in the northern part of Santa Rosa County (Munson Area.). We would like to have both an ARES volunteer with a mobile radio as well as a CERT volunteer for first aid.  Even if you don’t have a ham radio\, we have “go kits” that we can loan out for the event as long as you have your amateur radio license.  We do not have the exact locations of the aid stations as of yet\, but the race begins at Bear Lake Campground.  There will be 4 aid stations and the net control for race coordination at Bear Lake.  The length of time you will be needed will depend on the aid station you are posted at but\, worst case\, would be around 4:00/4:30 PM.

SUMMARY:Wide Area Search Training
DESCRIPTION:When disaster strikes\, it can be a challenge to effectively mobilize\, organize\, and deploy resources needed to perform wide area searches. This course is an excellent training opportunity for any jurisdiction or agency that may face such an emergency. The course content applies to a vast number of critical situations\, including natural disasters or terrorist incidents. \nOnline registration via this link is required as seating is limited. \nYou will be instructed in practical search methods and skills so you can perform systematic searches over a large affected area. The training will include challenging exercises that mirror real life scenarios. The three-day long event will conclude with an in-depth exercise that requires participants to utilize the skills gained during the course by working through an incident from start to finish in a single operational period. \nThe trainers delivering the course are knowledgeable—they are experienced emergency responders who have actively utilized wide area search techniques during some of the nation’s largest and most challenging operations\, such as Hurricanes Katrina\, Ike\, Gustav\, and Rita; the Space Shuttle Columbia recovery operation; and many other incidents that required the same comprehensive strategies. \nFri Jan 19 – Sun Jan 24\, 2024 | Fri: 5-10P\, Sat: 8-7P\, SUN:12-8P \nStudents must attend all 3 sessions. Lunch & dinner provided.
