SUMMARY:Shelter Fundamentals Training
DESCRIPTION:Clyde L. Gracey Community Center aka Milton Community Center\n5629 Byrom St\, Milton\, FL 32570\nSaturday\, July 19 from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm\nPlease click this link to signup to participate. \nDescription \nThe Shelter Simulation establishes an environment for participants to gain practical experience and refresher knowledge of shelter operations. In this unique learning experience\, there are core learning requirements that must be delivered to learners. Regional training leadership can customize the simulation delivery plan to fit the physical environment\, the desired simulation length\, and regional priorities. The flexibility of this simulation design enables it to be offered in 4 hours in a classroom or as a full-day intensive learning activity that engages learners in additional learning objectives.  \nPurpose \nThe Shelter Simulation provides an opportunity for participants to increase their knowledge of working in a shelter and gain confidence in performing various shelter tasks. \nLearning Objectives \nThe Shelter Simulation provides practical experience on how to conduct the various tasks required to maintain a functioning shelter. It also exposes learners to the types of situations they may encounter. Three overarching goals have been outlined for the simulation in order to provide the participants with a successful and productive learning experience: \n\nPromote teamwork through interactive group activities that correspond to operating a shelter.\nReinforce key activities and tasks that are involved in resourcing\, opening\, operating and closing a shelter.\nProvide participants with an opportunity to practice their skills and discuss ways to handle issues that arise in shelters.\n\nDue to liability concerns\, minors (children under 18) are not permitted to volunteer or accompany our CERT volunteers during events. With any event we work\, please make sure to bring necessary personal items such as hydration\, snacks\, sunscreen\, chairs or any other items you may need for the incident (traffic vests\, etc.) While we strive to have supplies at each event\, please be prepared in case something comes up that prevents your access to these supplies at the event. After action reports can be sent to srcares@santarosa.fl.gov.

SUMMARY:ARES-Field Day
DESCRIPTION:This year our event will be located on beautiful Navarre Beach at the Black Skimmer Pavilion. \n \nARRL Field Day is a radio communications event that brings together amateur radio operators (also called “hams”) within your community. The theme for 2025 Field Day is “Radio Connects” – highlighting the many ways that wireless technology connects people across distances near and far. The event is part picnic\, campout\, practice for emergencies\, informal contest\, and most of all\, fun! ARRL Field Day is the most popular ham radio activity held annually in the US and Canada. On the fourth weekend in June each year\, more than 31\,000 hams get together with their radio clubs\, schools\, or friends to operate from remote locations. \nARRL Field Day is an annual demonstration and invites the general public and organizations to see how amateur radio can serve in an emergency\, When All Else Fails®. Hams are well-known for their communications support in real disaster and post-disaster situations. Despite the development of very complex\, modern communications systems — or maybe because they are so complex — ham radio has been called into action\, again and again\, to provide communications in crises when it really matters.
